Art Show
Gate of Heaven School will be having its Annual Art Show on Friday, May 16 from 2:30pm - 6:00pm. Grades K2 through 8 have created artwork that celebrates American artists, past and present. Students have been inspired by artists Louise Nevelson, Jacob Lawrence, Jim Dine, and Georgia O’Keefe, just to name a few Please join us in our Gallery/Cafeteria at 609 East 4th Street for this exciting event!

Boston City Singers Youth Chorus Concert at the Library
Please join us for a special South Boston Training Spring Concert of folk music with the Boston City Singers, Boston’s acclaimed Youth Chorus, on Monday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the South Boston Branch Library.  The Youth Chorus provides the highest level of musical training and extensive performance opportunities to children and young people of all ages, designed to inspire personal development, emphasize the rewards of teamwork, celebrate diversity, and foster goodwill worldwide. Don’t miss this exceptional evening of musical entertainment for the whole family. Kid’s Bingo
Kid’s Bingo at St. Vincent’s (corner of E & W. 3rd Streets) on Sunday, May 18th at 1:00 p.m. (doors open at 12 noon). Come and enjoy a couple of hours with the kids.

Nutrition During Cancer Treatment
Join us to learn tips for healthy eating! on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, 4:30 - 6 p.m. at South Shore Hospital, Private Dining Room, 5 Fogg Road, Weymouth. Bereavement Support
If you have lost a loved one, please join others who empathize with your situation and find comfort compassion and support. Group members share feelings, ideas, experiences and advice in a supportive and confidential setting with a facilitator. Old Colony Hospice is offering two groups this summer on Tuesday afternoons from 2:00- 3:30. Group I: July 8 - August 5; Group II: - August 26 - September 23. Comedy Night at St. Peter Academy
St. Peter Academy wants to give the community a good laugh. On Friday, May 16, the school will hosting a Comedy Night at the Lithuanian Club. Show starts at 8pm and admission is $20. All proceeds benefit the students of St. Peter Academy. Practice that laughter and show your smile and support for the school!

Whisker Walk
Whisker Walk, a fun day for dogs and their humans plus a dog walk-a-thon fundraiser, is planned for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 8, at Lancaster Fairground, Rte. 117 in Lancaster, Mass. The walk will begin at noon. Walkers can form a pack of their friends and secure pledges or walk as individuals. There is a $25 minimum fee to walk. To sign up, to print a pledge sheet or for more details, visit www.sterlingshelter.org. Proceeds will benefit multiple shelters and rescue groups throughout New England. Events include a blessing of the animals, an agility course contests and awards, a silent auction, vendor booths, pet photos and more.

High Tea
The 5th Annual High Tea for Old Colony Hospice will be held Sunday, May 18, at the Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon. The tradition “rite of spring” will take place 2 pm - 4:30 pm. 225 attendees will be treated to Mrs. Kitty Dukakis, former Massachusetts First Lady, as keynote speaker. Highlights include the cool sounds of a jazz trio, fabulous raffle and silent auction, scrumptious food and boutique shopping. Tickets are $42.00; pre registration required, please. Art Exhibit
A Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) art exhibit at the State House will showcase the work of a number of disabled artists who drew their inspiration from visiting Massachusetts state parks. The May 19-May 23 exhibit in the 4th floor Grand Staircase Hall of the State House will include paintings, poetry, photography, sculpture and more by 14 artists chosen from a larger pool of applicants. A public reception for the artists will be held at the State House on Friday May 23, noon to 3 p.m. The exhibit and reception are both free.
