Children’s Program
Families, join us in your pajamas on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6:30pm at the South Boston Branch of the Boston Public Library, 646 East Broadway, for popcorn and a children’s movie! Come visit the South Boston Branch of the Boston Public Library, 646 East Broadway, on June 23, 2010, for an entertaining children’s film being held at 10:30am and again at 12pm. Pre-school classes welcome.

Animal Adaptations
Get up close and personal with LIVE animals from the Franklin Park Zoo on Thursday, June 24, 2010, 2:30PM at the South Boston Branch Library of the Boston Public Library. In this program, Animal Adaptations, kids will look at animals and learn what it is that enables each to eat, move and protect itself.

Citizen’s Advisory Committee
The Boston State Hospital Citizen’s Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, June 17, 2010, from 6pm - 8pm at the Foley Building, 249 River Street, Mattapan. Agenda TBD.

Franklin Park History Tour
The Franklin Park History Tour will take place Saturday, June 19th 10:00am - Noon. Come for a walk in the park and learn about the exciting history of the 527-acre, 120-year-old jewel of the Emerald Necklace! Julie Arrison, local historian and author of Images of America: Franklin Park, will lead participants through woodlands, past old stone ruins, and unique landscapes created by renowned park designer, Frederick Law Olmsted. The tour will begin with a history of the Franklin Park Zoo, including the spooky old bear dens! Also included will be Elma Lewis' original Playhouse in the Park, where Duke Ellington played, and White Stadium, where acts such as Richard Pryor and Sly and the Family Stone performed. Philanthropists of Forest Hills Tour
The Philanthropists of Forest Hills Tour will be held Sunday, June 27th at 2pm at historic Forest Hills Cemetery. Join Anthony Sammarco for a tour highlighting the lives of intriguing collectors and generous philanthropists buried at Forest Hills Cemetery. The Jordans of Jordan Hall, Forsyth of the Forsyth Dental Clinic, and Carney of Carney hospital are just a few of the men who made vast fortunes and then became patrons of the arts, science, and social causes. Many wealthy women were also active philanthropists, such as Pauline Agassiz Shaw, founder of the North Bennet Street School and supporter of the American kindergarten movement. Meet at Main Gate. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water; this is a 2-hour walk (with frequent stops) over varied terrain. Admission: $9.

150th Anniversary Celebration
Save the Date! The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur will celebrate their 150th anniversary of ministry to the people of South Boston on Sunday, October 17, 2010.

Knit & Crochet Show
Thousands of crocheters and knitters from the Northeast and across the country will be practicing their purls and chains and spotting their favorite color ways in skeins of fiber at the Knit & Crochet Show on July 9-10, 2010 at the Radisson Hotel Manchester at the Center of New Hampshire, Manchester, NH. For novice to pro with a crochet hook or set of knitting needles, the event provides a host of activities for learning and enjoyment.
