Good Americans With Good Ideas There seems to be a thousand hot spots around the country right about now. But probably none more than the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. As of this writing, several days ago, oil continued to leak into the pristine waters along our countrys Southern shoreline causing terrible damage. But we all know that. But well known local and man about town Jimmy Allen who runs South Boston Sign Shop had an idea that merits consideration. Jim brought up the fact that there are over 300 million Americans. Americans are pretty good at solving problems and inventing things. We do it better than any other people in the world. So Jims suggestion was for BP or British Petroleum to offer $10 Million Dollars to any American who could come up with a plan that would plug the oil leak. Completely plug it that is. Not some half baked gadget that only stops a percentage of it. 10 million dollars is of course pocket change to BP. Jim has a good point. Our country has more than its share of creative people. If the call went out it is likely that American genius on the part of our citizens would come up with a fix. There are probably countless ideas out there. BP only need make the offer and perhaps the answer will come from a little known American just waiting to be asked to show what he or she can do. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has been pleading with the Feds to allow him to set up barriers to prevent any more oil from coming ashore. For weeks the feds have ignored his requests. If they havent responded yet, heres hoping Governor Jindal stops waiting and does it anyway. At least he seems to have a plan. Just like with South Bostons own Jimmy Allen, this is another case where a good American has a good idea. In Arizona, the new anti illegal immigration law is having an effect even before it begins. News reports state that illegals are leaving in droves ahead of the laws implentation. Imagine that, its having the desired result already. And Obama and friends said it would do nothing to solve the problem. If the state of California did the same thing instead of calling for boycotts of Arizona, California would do much to help itself get out of the huge debt it is in. Estimated cost to California caused by illegal immigrants - 10 Billion dollars every year. Stop paying for illegals and in 3 years California would no longer be bankrupt. But that makes a little too much sense for a state dominated by liberals. Well quote what one writer summed up as the White House position on Arizonas law and border security in general. We refuse to enforce our nations federal immigration laws and were going to do everything in our power to stop others from securing the borders too. We refuse to even read Arizonas tough new law, but were not going to let that stop us from falsely labeling it as racist. Yup, that about sums up the White House position. The people we have in elected office, most of the liberal Democrats that is, seem to be doing everything possible to hamstring the country in the case of border security and now, they even refuse to allow states such as Louisiana to try to protect their own coastline. Im guessing its because the feds are afraid the states might make the White House and other agencies charged with protecting the coast and the wildlife down there and securing the border look bad if the states succeed and the feds cannot. There is a saying used more and more as of late. Maybe you cant fix stupid but you can sure vote it out. Hang in there America, the November elections are coming. To close this week, appreciation goes out to our local elected officials, both the Boston and State police and to the local citizens who spoke up about the problems at M St. Beach. As promised, the police have added extra patrols to keep things under control this summer and thats how it should be. Though it is no doubt a let down to the problem causers and to their irresponsible apologists, the beach this year should now be a place that is welcoming to all; including families with small children. Those with the shattered hopes of one day turning M St. into Fort Lauderdale North should look for a new location. May everyone now have a good summer.
