Renovated Saunders Stadium Reopens

PLAY BALL! If the weatherman co-operates, that will be one of the many sounds heard this coming Sunday April 22, at Columbus Park, as the South Boston Little League celebrates the opening of its “50th Season”. The day’s festivities will start at 10:00 am when Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. McDonnell presides over the annual Little League Mass at St. Monica’s Church, located on Old Colony Ave. across from the Ball Park. At 12:00 pm the opening day ceremonies will be held at Diamond #2, near the pedestrian overpass. A bench full of players, parents, coaches, league personnel, local politicians and invited guests are expected to be on hand for the festivities and ceremonial first pitch.

Ad Hoc Coalition Voices Concerns Over Impact Advisory Groups (I.A.G.s)

Since February, 2001, members of various civic and neighborhood groups from across the city have attended meetings and city council hearings to discuss their unhappiness with the Mayor’s executive order on Impact Advisory Groups (I.A.G.s) and work together to come up with one citywide set of rules on large scale development projects.

Community Meeting Monday, April 23

On Monday, April 23, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at the Tynan Community School the South Boston Residents’ Group will be hosting a community meeting to discuss the many issues that are confronting our neighborhood.

Groundbreaking Ceremony To Herald Construction Of New Labouré Center

State and local religious and political leaders will gather on Thursday, April 26 for a groundbreaking ceremony for the new 41,000 square-foot Labouré Center in South Boston. Bernard Cardinal Law will be joined by state Sen. Stephen F. Lynch, Mayor Thomas M. Menino, and University of Massachusetts President William M. Bulger, among others, to celebrate the start of the center’s construction. The public is invited to attend the festivities, which are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the site of the new center on the corner of West Broadway and D Street.
